Spring Valley, Nevada

Spring Valley is an unincorporated town and census-designated place in Clark County, originally formed in May 1981 by the Clark County Commission. Covering roughly 35.5 square miles, it lies about two miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. It’s governed under county supervision with advice from the Spring Valley Town Advisory Board, a group of local residents appointed by the Clark County Commission to provide input on community issues affecting Spring Valley.
Historically, the land was part of the Stardust International Raceway until the late 1960s, when Pardee Homes developed residential neighborhoods named for views of the Spring Mountains. In May 1981, residents petitioned for town status to better control zoning, officially creating Spring Valley.
Today, it’s a well-established suburban community featuring single-family homes, apartments, and newer developments. As of the 2020 census, the population is approximately 215,600, with a density of around 6,072 residents per square mile.
The local economy reflects suburban life. Unemployment was around 8.8 % recently, but projected job growth is high (40.3 % over 10 years). The absence of state income tax (0 %) attracts many residents, while sales tax sits at about 8.3 %.
Residents enjoy excellent amenities: Desert Breeze Park offers sports fields, a skate park, picnic areas, dog parks, and hosts events like the popular “Bite of Las Vegas” festival. Health needs are served by Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center, a 364-bed full-service hospital open since 2003. The Spring Valley Library provides local educational and community programs.
Families benefit from the areas numerous parks and recreation centers, excellent public schools in the Clark County School District, including Spring Valley High School, schools focused on specialized academic programs, and middle and elementary schools nearby. Community and social resources from food banks to counseling are available through county and nonprofit programs.
