Boulder City, Nevada

Although Boulder City, Nevada is located only twenty-three miles southeast of Las Vegas, it is a world apart from the glamour and glitz of its famed neighbor. For example, the Boulder City charter prohibits gambling within the city limits, a policy that has remained in place since the community was established during the construction of Hoover Dam in the early 1930s.
The rapid growth seen in nearby Las Vegas over the past several decades has served as a cautionary example for Boulder City regulators who, seeking to preserve the peace and tranquility valued by residents, have placed strict limits on building permits for single-family and multi-family construction and have restricted large hotel and resort development. Lodging in Boulder City remains relatively modest in size compared with nearby Las Vegas, reflecting the city’s long-standing commitment to maintaining a small-town atmosphere.
